St John's Parish Church Farncombe
About
St John’s is well placed to become part of the Welcome Directory. We have made regular donations to the Nazareth Way charity which supports the work of prison chaplaincies in Surrey with a particular focus on HMP Send. We have a robust safeguarding policy. Our curate is licensed as a part-time Anglican Chaplain at HMP Send, another member volunteers there on a weekly basis and another leads involvement with Send and HMP Coldingley on behalf of the Mothers’ Union, including running parenting classes. If we receive a referral, support would be available to us either from the chaplaincy team at HMP Send or the Probation Service depending on the need. We have a team that is already supporting an ex-offender in the community providing regular mentoring and practical help. It is important to empower the individual to take responsibility for his / her own life and not be dependent upon continued help. The role of the mentor is to signpost the individual to the appropriate services and organisations including • Assistance checking in with the local probation office and keeping appointments • Assistance in finding accommodation. • Assistance in finding employment including help with CV writing and filling out application forms • Help with personal needs e.g. assistance with purchasing toiletries, clothes, food (using grant from church funds or Foodbank) • Assistance with sorting out benefits and accessing financial support • Accompanying the ex-offender to the Jobcentre • Helping the individual plan how they are going to occupy their time. • Assistance with access to education and addressing illiteracy • Assistance in dealing with issues of addiction
