Above Bar Church is a community of Christians loving God, following Jesus and sharing the hope we have. Loving God – The Passion This is where it all starts. God shows us his love in Jesus Christ who died to save us and rose from death to give us life. So we want to love God with all that we are, and live for his glory by making much of his Son. Following Jesus – The Journey We are called to be disciples of Jesus who make more disciples. We want to follow him in every part of our lives, believing that God wants Jesus to be supreme in everything. We are convinced that true discipleship means being: Bible centred because Jesus is the centre of the Bible and we love him. God dependent because Jesus promised the power of his Spirit to those who trust him. Authentic community because Jesus unites people from diverse backgrounds in his body. Mission focused because those who follow Jesus are also sent out by him. Sharing Hope – The Challenge We believe that following Jesus is the best way to live, but it doesn’t stop with us. God has blessed us through Jesus to make us a blessing to others. He calls us to share this blessing with the world by proclaiming the good news of Jesus, and demonstrating his love in action. We aim to do this within the city of Southampton, around the world, and in our contribution to the wider church.

We are a family of faith where there’s always room for one more. We are a Group of three Sunday congregations and a quarterly Messy Church congregation too. We gather together from various denominations and expressions of Christian faith. We are (currently) the largest parish in Peterborough Diocese by population, a part of the Methodist Circuit in Northampton, a Baptist Church and a home for those who haven’t worked out which denomination they want to be part of, or just don’t care. All at the same time. Mostly, we are a family of people who love Jesus and want to show people that he loves them too.

All are welcome to attend the Christian Science Sunday and Wednesday services to learn about how the universal laws of God are defined. Scripture informs us that "God is Love" 1Johm: 4: 8.This deeper understanding of God as infinite Love and unchanging goodness is what brings healing to our lives and leads to prayer that can heal, redeem and restore. This is what Jesus practised and taught his disciples to do and is something that anyone can learn for themselves.

FCG seeks to express the unity in Christ that is shared by Free Churches in England and Wales by promoting fellowship, shared counsel and working together, where possible, to extend Christ’s kingdom in every sphere of society. This is done whilst recognising that each Group Member remains at liberty to fulfil its own distinctive witness and mission. There is a particular focus on chaplaincy work in Prisons, Healthcare and Education although much wider issues in these areas and other fields are considered. Maintaining the spiritual testimony of the Free Churches, upholding their full religious liberty and taking action on matters of principle, where appropriate, are rooted in FCG’s mission.

We don't offer neat creeds or doctrine. Instead, we try to help each other work out how we should live. All people are welcome and accepted at a Quaker meeting. Quakerism is almost 400 years old. It's the common name for the Religious Society of Friends. It grew out of Christianity and today we also find meaning and value in other faiths and traditions. We recognise that there's something transcendent and precious in every person. Different Quakers use different words to describe this, but we all believe we can be in contact with it and encounter something beyond our individual selves.

Within our Church community we already have 4 people who are volunteers actively involved in local prisons and a Young Offenders Institution. 2 of the volunteers work as mentors preparing women for release and so as a community we are made aware of the difficulties facing those leaving prison and the importance of having positive links within the community in order to reduce the risk of re offending. Our Church community gives financial support to our local prison Chaplaincy. We would want to approach each individual in a non-judgemental way, understanding their individual needs and then responding appropriately. We have a number of folk within our Church who have close links with agencies providing support in the community and it would be important to draw on the experience and expertise of others . We are an inclusive , welcoming and supportive Church. Attending worship or even showing an interest in attending would not be a pre requisite to us offering a welcome and any support that we can to someone returning to our area.

The Cathedral is open to the public every day through the year and people often come in to pray, light a candle, and enjoy some peace and quiet. There is usually a Welcomer on the door. The 9am Sunday service is full of young families and very friendly; we share coffee and cake/toast afterwards; this is a fairly informal service. The 11.15 service is more formal with a choir singing a lot of the service - it is very beautiful. Anyone who has been baptised (christened) i any church is welcome to receive Holy Communion.

There is a lovely, peaceful garden attached to the Meeting House. Quakers worship in silence though people are encouraged to stand and speak when moved to do so. Quakers have a long history of prison reform and many are involved in the criminal justice system as prison visitors, chaplains and members of Circles of Support and Responsibility. Quakers are inclusive and welcoming. Our principal values are simplicity, equality, truth, peace and the environment.

MCA Provide care and support to our Muslim brothers and sisters who have been in custody All praise to Allah, a large number of Muslim chaplains who work in prisons are part of the MCA. During the year 2002 a few concerned Muslim Chaplains came together, to discuss how they could support the fast growing number of Muslim prisoner population and reduce the high number of re-offending rates. This heralded the birth of ‘Muslim Chaplains’ Association’ (MCA). With the grace of our Creator, support of chaplaincy headquarters staff, HMPPS management board and wider community organisations, years later MCA has a strong network of supporters and well wishers, within HMPPS and the wider community.

This is a place we hope you’ll be able to call home. As a leadership team we are giving our best to create a space where people can experience, communicate, demonstrate and celebrate the love of God. We don’t believe in a dry and dull faith, but the life changing, all-powerful grace of a saviour who not only died for our sins but then rose and defeated death and lives today. We believe that when Jesus returned to be seated with Father God in Heaven he sent the person of the Holy Spirit to fill us with his living power and we operate in that power today, tasked with building the Kingdom of God and reflecting His light in our community. If you’re new to following Jesus, curious about faith, looking for answers to the big questions of life, a hardened sceptic or a life long, all in, sold out christian. We’d love you to join us on this journey. We’re not perfect, we’re not polished or slick, but people say this church feels like family and you’re invited to be part of that. Hope to see you soon, John & Ruth.

Rainham Christian Fellowship was planted in September 1994 in Medway by Parkwood Christian Fellowship and originally met in a house in Rainham near Gillingham. There were 9 couples and children. We thought no-one would join us whilst in a house but God proved us wrong by sending someone from Gravesend. When we outgrew the house, we met in an Infant School in Rainham, complete with infant-sized toilets and infant-sized chairs! Just about the time we were getting too big for the school, another local Baptist Church in Twydall, Gillingham (that had become too small for their building) gave their building to us: lock, stock, barrel and finances. And praise God, all the remaining members became members of Rainham Christian Fellowship. Rainham Christian Fellowship is a vibrant church with a family atmosphere which is inclusive to all. We would love to meet you, so come and pop in! (Sundays at 10:30). St John’s is well placed to become part of the Welcome Directory. We have made regular donations to the Nazareth Way charity which supports the work of prison chaplaincies in Surrey with a particular focus on HMP Send. We have a robust safeguarding policy. Our curate is licensed as a part-time Anglican Chaplain at HMP Send, another member volunteers there on a weekly basis and another leads involvement with Send and HMP Coldingley on behalf of the Mothers’ Union, including running parenting classes. If we receive a referral, support would be available to us either from the chaplaincy team at HMP Send or the Probation Service depending on the need. We have a team that is already supporting an ex-offender in the community providing regular mentoring and practical help. It is important to empower the individual to take responsibility for his / her own life and not be dependent upon continued help. The role of the mentor is to signpost the individual to the appropriate services and organisations including • Assistance checking in with the local probation office and keeping appointments • Assistance in finding accommodation. • Assistance in finding employment including help with CV writing and filling out application forms • Help with personal needs e.g. assistance with purchasing toiletries, clothes, food (using grant from church funds or Foodbank) • Assistance with sorting out benefits and accessing financial support • Accompanying the ex-offender to the Jobcentre • Helping the individual plan how they are going to occupy their time. • Assistance with access to education and addressing illiteracy • Assistance in dealing with issues of addiction

For those who have left prison we will welcome them in the same way and try to ensure that they feel comfortable and included in our worship, fellowship and social activities. We will treat them as every newcomer, without singling them out because of their past. We will join them on their Christian journey and offer a grounded approach to their Christian faith so that they can appreciate how God is relevant today in their life and in those around them. We will support them in exploring Christianity by nurturing their growing interest without applying undue pressure or expectations upon them. We will respect their privacy but if they choose to talk to us about past experiences relating to crime and/or prison, we will listen and try to support them in a compassionate, confidential and non-judgmental way. St Martin-in-the-Fields is a unique institution in which cultural, charitable and commercial initiatives are rooted in the life of a vibrant congregation. We have a glorious 1726 building whose combination of classical and gothic styles has been imitated all over the world, especially in the USA. We are proud to have hosted the first religious broadcast in 1924. We believe that those facing adversity are closest to God’s heart. Our community was involved in the anti-apartheid protests at South Africa House in the 1980s. Today we strive to see past labels that exclude people and welcome the gifts of all God’s people. We celebrate our life together through beautiful worship, genuine community, honest seeking for truth, partnerships in the UK and around the world, and walking with the poor. Where necessary we will help them in practical ways regarding access to resources available in the community.

In the early 18th century, a new group was established in the Burton area but by the middle of the century it had ceased to exist. However, The Uttoxeter Meeting House reopened in 1922 and has remained so ever since. In 1926 a meeting was re-established in Burton, and an old brewery office was converted to a Meeting House, but in 1975 it was sold and the Burton Friends were united with the Uttoxeter Meeting. Although Burton Friends are still part of the Uttoxeter Meeting, they now hold occasional Meetings for Worship in Burton.

We welcome everyone and aim to make our meetings as relaxed and as visitor-friendly as we can. We start at 10:30am with a brief introduction and explanation of what is going to happen, then have a time of corporate sung worship led by a contemporary-style band. During this time people are free to stand, sit, just observe, or engage in worship however they feel most comfortable. At 10:50am the children’s activities start and parents are able to drop their children off there if they want to. Each week there is a relevant talk from the Bible which will encourage application to our lives. We end the meeting at around 12 noon, often with a song and an opportunity for prayer. Then afterwards there is plenty of time to stay around and get to know people better over tea, coffee and biscuits.

The bedrock of the Quaker way is the silent meeting for worship. We seek a communal gathered stillness, where we can be open to inspiration from the spirit of God and find: peace of mind joy in creation impetus to act positively in the world During our meeting for worship some may feel moved to speak, something anyone can do, as all are considered equal. Quakers do not have priests, or a hierarchy, as we believe all people can have a direct relationship with God. You do not have to be a Quaker to attend Quaker meetings, which are open to all. If you would like to join us and share in our stillness you would be most welcome. Here in Woodbridge during normal times there are usually around 20 of us together on a Sunday morning, between 10.30 and 11.30a.m. often including a visitor or two. In a typical meeting several Friends may be moved to spoken ministry followed by a moments silence between each ministry for others to consider and process what has been said. Occasionally the whole hour passes in silence, which can be a powerful experience if the Meeting is truly ‘gathered’, as Quakers put it. Five minutes before the end of the meeting one of the elders will invite those present to bring individuals or groups with specific problems to be ‘held in the light’ by everyone gathered, or alternatively those gathered are invited to give thanks for something specific that has happened during the week. At the end of the hour there will be time to share information about Friends unable to be present and for notices to be given. There will also be a brief presentation about the charity that is being supported for the monthly appeal. Following this we usually chat and have a coffee or tea.
